Choosing your Post 16 Options

Q. Should I stay on at Sixth Form, go to college or get a job?

A. Any one of these might be right for you so lets look at the options.

Sixth form In Brentwood we have an exciting way to stay on at your own sixth form and access a course from another school that is not being put on in yours. There are lots of these extra courses on offer and you will be able to pick one of these options and travel to the other school just for this course. We have busses that run between the schools to get you there, so don't worry about the travel. The 16+ menu tag above will give you a range of alternative courses on offer to you across the Brentwood area.
Each Brentwood school produces a Sixth Form brochure and they can usualy be downloaded from their website or requested by phone. EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) payments are also available to many students who qualify

College there are a number of colleges within about 12miles from Brentwood and your choice will probably depend on travel requirements. If you are looking to gain a vocational or skills based qualification in say Hair, Salon Services, Mechanics, Beauty, TV/Radio Media, Land based, Equine, Electronics or many other practical based courses, a college might well be the place to look. They each have open days and these along with the course offer can be found on their websites.

A Job For some students it is appropriate to find a job at this stage and look for further training through an apprenticeship or further study at a later stage. the local connexions careers advice service will give a great deal of advice and guidance if you think this is for you.

(Most of this information is courtessy of the Connexions website)

Stepon is the Essex local authority's online resource for finding a course and learning provider that best suits you. Course guides are included for you to read.
